Home Lifestyle The Houston Council of the Blind was organized January 27, 1978 in Houston Tx. There were 18 members who were very involved in the growth of the organization. The organization was chartered by the State of Texas on June 2, 1978 as a non-profit corporation. The first officers were:
Advantages of belonging to the Houston Council of the Blind (HCB):
  • Vote in HCB elections;
  • Enjoy monthly meetings with special programs and refreshments;
  • Receive our quarterly newsletter, The Beacon;
  • Automatically become a member of ACB of Texas;
  • Automatically become a member of the American Council of the blind;
  • Enjoy special field trips;
  • Meet other blind people;
  • Learn about special interest affiliates;
  • Learn to be an advocate for yourself.
  HCB Scholarship Program
HCB strives to give two or three scholarships annually.
